Rylan Pozniak Daniels: 23-Years Old AR/VR Visionary from Poland

At 20, Rylan Pozniak Daniels was recognized as one of the best young programmers in the US. Nevertheless he is American, he attended a Polish school, speaks Polish, and identifies with our country. He received a special honor at the Polish Consulate in LA this year, thanks to his successes. It is the “Outstanding Pole” statuette of the Polish Promotional Emblem Foundation “Now Poland.” He is currently working with SpaceX astronaut Dr. Sian “Leo” Proctor on the use of mixed reality MR in digital education.

Despite his young age, Rylan has already collaborated on developing augmented reality XR (AR/VR/MR) with several companies. He has worked for NASA, Apple, Stanford University, Snapchat, Google, and Niantic to promote XR technology to the masses.

At NASA, Rylan led the team hired to develop an XR-equipped spacesuit. As a result, it was used by cosmonauts going to the Moon on the Artemis mission. And yet, it was the first manned mission to the Moon in more than 50 years.

Rylan won several XR hackathons after working on XR at Apple and Niantic. One was the MIT Reality Hack 2023 for the best sharing experience. The other was Stanford TreeHacks 2022 for best accessibility. He also succeeded in 2021 when he went to AR House in Los Angeles as an AR artist-in-residence. And there, he won the top prize in Niantic’s Lightship Challenge. And the year before, he worked at Stanford’s Skull Base and Pituitary Center to develop a VR neuroanatomy app. It helped medical students at Standford University perform specialized brain surgery. That same year, Rylan also received the Nextant Prize for AR/VR Social Impact at the Augmented World Expo in Silicon Valley, the world’s largest AR/VR conference.

Previous successes of Rylan

In 2019 Rylan worked with Alex McDowell, production designer for Spielberg’s “Minority Report” film, to develop an AR visualization of a floating city. The project was intended as a direct response to the prediction that millions of people around the world will be forced to resettle by 2050 due to climate change.

A year earlier, Snapchat invited Rylan to create one of the first AR lenses for Lens Studio. It was Snap’s AR development tool.

Add to that the fact that in 2016, Rylan won 1st place in the UploadVR judging competition for the best VR app to take a tour of the human brain.

Music career

Rylan Pozniak Daniels doesn’t live by XR alone, however. He is also a prolific composer of music and a Los Angeles Philharmonic Composer Fellow. As a result, the premiere performance of his original works by the LA Phil Orchestra and LA Master Chorale took place at Walt Disney Concert Hall. And here, howeve, is the place for XR. Rylan continues to integrate his musical compositions and sound environments with the breakthroughs of this technology.
