Jagiellonian University wins CERC 2023

UJ’s victory in the CERC 2023 was undisputed, as it was the only team to solve 10 tasks out of 12. Second place went to the University of Warsaw ahead of the University of Wroclaw (after 9 out of 12). Last year, UJ overtook UW only by better time, as both teams solved 10 tasks out of 12 each (details here).

The CERC 2023 was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from December 8-10, 2023, and was attended by 60 three-person teams representing universities from Croatia, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary.

The gold medalists – Antoni Dlugosz, Kacper Paciorek and Kacper Topolski – are analytical computer science and mathematics students at the Faculty of Informatics at the Jagiellonian University. This time, in addition to programming skills and quick thinking, they also iron nerves: in the last hour (out of the 5 hours of the competition), they solved four tasks, more than making up for the loss to the top and making all the spectators amazed. It is Jagiellonian University’s second consecutive victory in the event and, at the same time, another success for this team in last year’s season after winning the Polish Academic Team Programming Championships in November 2023. The chaperones of the UJ teams were Dr. Lech Duraj and Krzysztof Potępa, M.Sc.

9 sets of medals (2 gold, three silver, four bronze) were awarded at the CERC competition. The top ten included two teams each from UJ, UW, UWr and the University of Zagreb (Croatia), and one each from the University of Budapest (Hungary) and Riga (Latvia).
