The Polish team (Arkadiusz Czarkowski, Bartłomiej Czarkowski and Tomasz Nowak, accompanied by prof. Krzysztof Diks, and prof. Jan Madey) achieved an emphatic victory in the 2024 ICPC EUC as the only one solving 9 tasks out of 11, for which they received a gold medal. Places 2- 9 were occupied by teams that solved 8 tasks each, and their order was decided by time. Croatia and Ukraine won silver medals, while bronze medals went to Hungary, the University of Wroclaw and France. Jagiellonian University from Poland solved the same number of tasks but took 8th place. The University of Toruń from Poland solved 4 tasks and took 48th place.
The 1st edition of the Academic Team Programming Championships (ICPC EUC) was held on March 22-24, 2024 in Prague (Czech Republic). Fifty-two teams from 24 countries participated in the competition, with the best 13 each from the regional competitions for Central Europe (CERC), Northern Europe (NWERC), Southeastern Europe (SEERC) and Southwestern Europe (SWERC). The CERC region performed best, with four representatives in the top five.
- University of Warsaw (Poland) – 9 tasks out of 11 (CERC),
- University of Zagreb (Croatia) – 8 (CERC),
- University of Kyiv (Ukraine) – 8,
- Eötvös Loránd University (Hungary) – 8 (CERC),
- University of Wroclaw (Poland) – 8 (CERC),
- École Normale Supérior de Paris (France) – 8,
- University of Oxford (UK) – 8,
- Jagiellonian University (Poland) – 8 (CERC),
- University of Porto (Portugal) – 8,
- Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Spain) – 8.
Tasks proved difficult, as no team solved two out of 11, and only UW solved one. The latter proved decisive, as UW had the weakest time of the top 10. All teams that solved 8 tasks or more qualified for the ICPC world finals. They will be held in Kazakhstan in the fall of 2024.
CERC 2023
Jagiellonian University was the favourite for the competition, having won the CERC 2023 regional qualifiers in December 2023 and the Polish Academic Team Programming Championships in November 2023. The ICPC EUC 2024 champion in CERC 2023 took second place, and the University of Wroclaw took third place. This time, the order of the Polish teams was slightly reversed.
