Atman has secured the most extensive grant in Poland to expand data centres. An agreement was signed by 6 financial institutions from Poland and Europe. The loan is earmarked for constructing the new WAW-3 campus in Duchnice near Warsaw. The second goal is expanding existing colocation facilities.
In addition to the standard financial requirements, the agreement emphasizes non-financial, ESG-related aspects in all areas. They aim primarily to reduce the amount of energy consumed. They are also building a positive impact on the economic and social environment and the environment.
“We believe in the success of our first European investment in data centres, which will give rise to other projects in this part of the world. We regard the construction of the WAW-3 campus as our group’s flagship project in the Central European region,” said Doug Lane, CFO at Global Compute Infrastructure, Atman’s major shareholder.
Details
The WAW-3 data centre campus will eventually house 50,000+ servers in 3 buildings with a total area of nearly 19,000 sq m for colocation of IT equipment. The project’s first phase, which began in October 2023 (construction of a building offering 14.4 MW of power), will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2024.
“According to many industry analysts, we are facing great growth in the data centre market. Atman is investing in constructing new facilities, seeing good prospects for commercialization related to the growing demand for data centre services generated by the development of cloud computing and AI technologies. In recent years, Poland has become a centralized data centre base in CEE for major global IT players,” stressed Slawomir Koszolko, CEO of Atman.
About the company
According to a PMR report, Atman has been Poland’s data centre market leader since 2011. It currently has a 15% share in net space for colocation, cloud computing and dedicated server services.
