Two teams from Poland, the Jagiellonian University and University of Warsaw, won the CERC 2022. It was a Central Europe Regional Programming Contest 2022. Both teams solved 10 problems out of 12. Significantly ahead of the team of Charles University in Prague and the University of Zagreb. They solved 8 problems each.
CERC 2022
The competition took place on November 26-27, 2022, in Ljubljana, Slovenia. It was attended by 57 three-person teams representing universities from Croatia, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Hungary. The winning team consisted of Antoni Długosz, Grzegorz Gawryał, and Jacek Salata. Its supervisor was dr. Lech Duraj. It was the first victory of the Jagiellonian University in the over 20-year history of its starts. The team of the University of Warsaw, which took second place, consisted of: Arkadiusz Czarkowski, Bartłomiej Czarkowski, and Tomasz Nowak. Their supervisors were Wojciech Nadara and Marek Sokołowski, and the team leader was prof. Krzysztof Diks.
Other teams from both universities also took high places. The second team of the Jagiellonian University took 5th place with a silver medal. It consisted of Vladyslav Denysiuk, Oleh Naver, and Roman Yanushevskyi. They are from Ukraine, this year’s winners of the Scholarship of Franciszek Mertens. The following teams from Jagiellonian University took 11th, 13th, and 17th places. Two teams from the University of Warsaw won bronze medals, taking 6th and 9th places, and the next two – 14th and 20th.
The teams of the University of Wrocław fared less well, this time taking the following places: 10th, 12th, 14th, 16th, and 27th. Even the best of them will not participate in the ICPC finals. It is quite a surprise because a year ago, the University of Wrocław took 5th place in the ICPC finals, winning the silver medal. Since 2009 it has failed to advance to the finals only once (in 2016).
ICPC Finals
The first two teams from the Central European Championship qualified for the finals of the 47th edition of the ICPC. It will take place at the end of 2023 in Egypt. In this year’s finals of the 46th edition of the ICPC 2022, the University of Warsaw did a great job. It won the silver medal, taking 8th place. As the only university in the world, it continuously qualifies for the ICPC Finals since 1994, winning twice in 2003 and 2007. It won a total of 5 gold, 7 silver, and 4 bronze medals. The Jagiellonian University and the University of Wrocław advanced to the finals 11 times each. Winning 1 gold and 2 bronze medals and 3 silver and 1 bronze medals, respectively.
