Three MedTech Companies from Poland in Google for Startups 2021

Google has completed recruitment for a new acceleration program for startups from Europe and Israel in MedTech. Among the 15 selected, three MedTech are from Poland: BIOTTS, Goodsleeper and MedApp. The program will be implemented by the Google for Startups Campus in Warsaw. It will last until the end of the year.

Over the past year, the topics of medicine, health and well-being have become a priority worldwide. In the last six years, the value of European health tech startups has increased from $8 to $41 billion. In 2020 alone, funding for startups in this industry increased by $750 million. The issue of democratizing access to healthcare is an increasingly growing need. It is why Google has announced a special edition of the Google for Startups 2021 acceleration program. It is focused on supporting technology companies operating in the health segment. This 3-month intensive program is designed to help promising startups expand their business. It includes meetings and workshops with experts, mentoring by Google engineers and external specialists, and access to Google products and technical knowledge. Three MedTech companies from Poland were among the 15 selected.

The  BIOTTS company from Wrocław develops proprietary carriers and drug formulas in oncology and diabetology. Based on over thirty years of experience, the R&D team creates drugs, solves complex technological problems and creates unique solutions to help people worldwide. The CEO of BIOTTS, Paweł Biernat, admitted that he would focus on developing leadership skills. All of that to introduce effective management methods for the fast-growing young organization.

“The biggest challenge is to keep up with procedures in terms of the number of projects and the number of new people.”

The Lublin-based company offers digital self-help in treating chronic insomnia. It is based on scientifically proven and drug-free methods. The company has developed a digital insomnia treatment program. It is based on cognitive behavioral therapy methods that allow users to overcome their sleep disorders in six weeks from the comfort of their own homes. Małgorzata Fornal-Pawłowska and Michał Skalski, who developed the application, are sleep medicine experts.

The MedApp company from Poland (Krakow) develops technologies supporting image diagnostics and new generation digital medicine. Their main areas of interest are:

  • AI – continuous improvement of the quality of diagnoses using modern IT tools,
  • 3D imaging – mixed reality (MR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies to improve diagnostics and treatment.

All of that involves analyzing and handling aggregated data. It is possible using multiple peripheral devices in an innovative telemedicine system (Big Data Analysis). Krzysztof Mędrala, president of MedApp, hopes that the mentoring from Google will help scale the business to other countries’ demands and optimize the development process.

“It includes all activities related to the company’s launch, such as marketing and communication.”
