EuroSkills is an international professional skills competition organised in Europe since 2008. It is driven by the idea of WorldSkills formulated more than 70 years ago: improving professional competences, exchanging good practices, building partnerships between education and business as well as creating a positive image of vocational education. In 2023, the EuroSkills Competition will take place in Gdańsk – it will be the biggest event in the history of vocational education in Poland. Between 5 and 9 September, over 40 skill competitions will be held at the AMBEREXPO Exhibition and Congress Centre and adjacent areas, as well as at the Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk. They have been divided into six sectors: Information and Communication Technology, Manufacturing and Engineering Technology, Construction and Building Technology, Transportation and Logistics, Service Industry, Creative Arts and Fashion. The event will take place in competition arenas with a total area of 60,000 m2 , prepared to host around 600 competitors and 600 renowned experts from 32 countries. The organiser estimates that EuroSkills Gdańsk 2023 will attract more than 100,000 spectators from Poland and abroad. The Competition will be accompanied by various events: demonstrations, exhibitions, conferences, and industry seminars.
Paweł Poszytek, PhD, DSc WorldSkills Poland Official Delegate, General Director of the Foundation for the Development of the Education System – National Agency for the Erasmus+ Programme and European Solidarity Corps said:
– EuroSkills Gdańsk 2023 is an unprecedented event – it is a great celebration of young professionals, but also of all institutions that find the ideas of the WorldSkills movement important. Hosting this event in Poland is the best proof of the successful and rapid development of WorldSkills Poland. After being part of the WorldSkills family for only five years, not only are we fielding a large team of Competitors, but we have also become capable of fulfilling the role of a host. Over the past five years, we have built an impressive ecosystem that not only includes representatives in the industries involved, but also experts, mentors and experienced practitioners. It is developing in synergy with the business sector and its environment, for it is high-skilled workers who are in great demand on the market, as they constitute a guarantee for economic growth. Our efforts have already yielded concrete results, as evidenced by the three medals our competitors brought home from the recent EuroSkills 2021 Capital Competition in Graz. However, by no means are we becoming complacent. We are inviting universities, private companies, NGOs and local governments to collaborate. We want EuroSkills Gdańsk 2023 to be not only a spectacular event, full of excitement and unforgettable experiences, but, above all, a milestone in promoting the very best of our country’s professional industries.
