Polish researchers at MIM Solutions, AI startup from Poland, will advise the EC on how to spend the EU’s €300 billion Global Gateway fund for sustainable development. It is the only startup in this advisory group and the only Polish company advising in health.
MIM Solutions will represent Poland in the Global Gateway Business Advisory Group. The European Commission chose the Polish company primarily because of its competence in AI. As a result, AI startup from Poland was included in the prestigious group of EC advisors. Among them are giants such as Siemens, Orange, Nokia, and Veolia.
Global Gateway is the European Union’s program for sustainable development. Under it, the Commission supports sustainable investments by EU companies in other countries outside the EU. They are tasked with leveling the playing field for regions outside the EU. Of course, including in the context of the recent COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Many investments have already been subsidized under this initiative. One is rural electrification in Madagascar. Another is the construction of fiber optic cables in Algeria and an undersea power cable connecting Tunisia to Italy. Still, another is the development of a green carbon certificate program targeting farmers in Colombia. The new strategy aims to strengthen intelligent, clean, and secure operations in the digital, energy, and transportation sectors. And to support health, education, and research systems around the world. That this is a critical endeavor can be seen from the fact that this edition of the program has a funding level 10 times higher than the previous one. It is a good thing that MIM Solutions will also have a say here.
Group activities
The Commission held an open call for group members for the next three-year term. The only condition was that the company be based in the EU. A list of new Advisory Group members, including AI startup from Poland, was announced by EU Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen. It took place on September 18, 2023, during the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Summit in New York. It included 60 members and ten observers – representatives of European companies and business associations. The Advisory Group, including MIM Solutions, held its first regular meeting on September 27, 2023. Its members, however, do not advise on selecting individual projects. In opposite, they help the Commission create a strategy for the program and set the key objectives and sectors to be supported.
